What is ResurFX?

ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser made by Lumenis. It uses a 1565 nm fiber laser that works below the surface, so the top layer of skin stays in place.

The FDA cleared the ResurFX laser module in 2013 for dermatological procedures that require skin resurfacing and coagulation of soft tissue.

How does ResurFX work?

The ResurFX fractional laser is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative, skin resurfacing technology. ResurFX fractional laser stimulates the production of new collagen and elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. Stimulating new collagen production is the key to a more radiant, youthful looking skin.

Why fractional matters

Non-ablative lasers like ResurFX target the water in your skin and heat it in a controlled way, without vaporizing the tissue. Lumenis explains that this heat is what prompts your skin to make new collagen.

Fractional means the laser treats a pattern of tiny, deep columns and leaves untreated skin in between. This untreated skin helps the treated areas heal faster. ResurFX also places its micro-beams in a non-sequential order, which Lumenis designed to limit heat buildup in any one spot.

How can ResurFX help me?

ResurFX is completed as a series of treatments. Because it is a limited downtime procedure, it usually requires multiple treatments for significant and meaningful results. Typically, at least 3-4 treatments about one month apart are necessary to obtain optimum results, although this varies by the individual and their goal.

What should I know before ResurFX treatments?

Before your visit

Please avoid use of make-up or lotions the day of your treatment. Sunburned skin cannot be treated. Avoid irritants to the treatment area, such as bleaching creams, retinols, Retin-A, glycolic acid, or salicylic acids 3 days prior to appointment. Please let us know prior to your appointment if you are taking any new medications that make you photosensitive.

What to expect after ResurFX treatments?

After your visit

You will feel like you have a sunburn after treatment. To soothe skin you are able to use aloe and ice packs. Avoid lotions or products for 4 hours post treatment. To achieve the best results complete the full treatment schedule recommended.

• Arrive early with a clean face, free of makeup, moisturizers, and lotions, so the numbing has time to work.
• Wear or bring a button-down shirt, so nothing pulls over your face after treatment.

• Protect your skin from the sun, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher after treatment.

How does ResurFX compare with Cool Peel and IPL?

When ResurFX is not the right choice

Lumenis, the maker of ResurFX, states that the laser platform ResurFX runs on should not be used on anyone with an active infection, including viral, fungal, or bacterial disease.
