The holiday season is a time for celebration, joy, and self-care. What better way to treat yourself than with rejuvenating medspa skin treatments? Whether you’re looking to refresh your appearance or simply unwind, we’ve curated a list of the best medspa treatments, including Botox injections, SkinPen microneedling, dermal fillers, and laser hair removal, to help you look and feel your best during this festive time.
- Botox: Say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles with the magic of Botox. This non-surgical treatment involves injecting a purified protein into targeted facial muscles to relax them temporarily. Botox is perfect for smoothing out crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles, leaving you with a refreshed and youthful appearance just in time for holiday gatherings.
- Microneedling: Microneedling is a collagen-inducing therapy that uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural healing process, leading to improved texture, reduced scarring, and enhanced elasticity. The result? A radiant, holiday-ready complexion that’s sure to turn heads at every event.
- PDO Threads (no longer offered): We no longer offer PDO threads. To refresh your look this season, browse our other aesthetic treatments or ask about your options at a consultation.
- Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers are your secret weapon for plump, youthful skin. These injectable gels, typically containing hyaluronic acid, add volume and smooth out wrinkles. Whether you want to enhance your lips, restore lost facial volume, or minimize smile lines, dermal fillers can deliver natural-looking results that will make you feel confident and radiant for holiday festivities.
- Laser Hair Removal: Tired of dealing with unwanted hair? Laser hair removal is the gift that keeps on giving. This non-invasive treatment uses targeted laser energy to permanently reduce hair growth. By starting your sessions now, you can achieve silky-smooth, hair-free skin just in time for those holiday parties and vacations.
How each treatment works and what to expect
Here is a closer look at four of the treatments on our list, and what a visit involves.
Botox
Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medicine injected into specific facial muscles. It blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical messenger nerves use to tell a muscle to contract, so the treated muscle relaxes and lines in that area soften. Dysport works in a similar way.
What to expect: Your provider assesses the areas you would like to treat, may mark the injection points, and uses a fine needle to place small amounts of product into the targeted muscles. The maker of Botox Cosmetic says treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Results vary, but Botox Cosmetic typically begins working in a few days and reaches full effect at two weeks. Slight bruising, redness, and headaches are common and should resolve after a couple of days.
Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction, uses fine needles to create tiny, controlled channels in the skin. As they heal, the body’s wound healing response forms new collagen and elastin. We use SkinPen, which is FDA cleared for adults 22 and older to improve the appearance of facial acne scars.
What to expect: After a review of your health history and goals, a topical anesthetic may be applied if you would like numbing. The skin is cleaned, a thin layer of hydrogel goes on to protect it, and your provider glides the pen over the area. Afterward, expect redness like a mild sunburn. Skip makeup for 24 hours and sweaty workouts for 72 hours. Microneedling is not a quick fix: it can take several months to see the full results.
Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are medical device implants, approved by the FDA, that are injected beneath the skin to help create a smoother or fuller appearance. Hyaluronic acid, one of the materials used in fillers, is a type of sugar found naturally in skin. In gel form, it combines with water and swells, creating a smoothing and filling effect. Most fillers are temporary because the body gradually absorbs them over time.
What to expect: Your provider evaluates your face, may mark and cleanse the injection sites, and may numb the skin with an ointment or a cold instrument. The whole process may take 15 minutes to an hour, depending on how many areas are treated. Bruising, redness, and tenderness are common.
Laser hair removal
Hair grows in stages, and the laser can only target hairs in the growing (anagen) stage, when the root is biggest and packed with melanin. That is why several sessions are needed. We use the LightSheer Desire by Lumenis, which the FDA has cleared for hair removal and permanent hair reduction: a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs that grow back, not the removal of every hair.
What to expect: Shave the area the day before, and keep it out of the sun and away from tanning products beforehand. At your appointment, the area is cleansed, everyone in the room wears protective eyewear, and your provider holds the skin taut while treating it with the laser. Afterward, avoid UV exposure for seven days.
Planning treatments around the holidays
With a party on the calendar, it is best to schedule Botox and Dysport at least two weeks before a big event, and some treatments require you to prepare at least two weeks before your appointment. Combining treatments? Our instructions ask you to wait at least two weeks after Botox before microneedling, and to avoid laser treatments, peels, and facials for two weeks after dermal fillers. Our pre and post treatment instructions list every step.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, let us know before you book: Botox, dermal fillers, and microneedling are not recommended while pregnant or breastfeeding, and laser hair removal is not suitable during pregnancy.
